Melqon and Alin Destination Wedding in Armenia

Melqon and Alin are Western Armenians living in Beirut. Their ancestors are originated from Sasun and Ourfa. The young couple decided to have a destination wedding closer to their roots, Eastern Armenia, and trusted the organization of their Big day to Tonir Wedding.

Their many guests traveled to Armenia from different parts of the world to take part in this tailor-made destination wedding.

The two-day fairy-tale of Melqon and Alin’s Tonir Wedding started with the family history and
traditions: old and new rituals, wedding dress and national costumes, jewelry, cuisine and traditional games.

We researched their roots of Sasun and Ourfa, how people dressed up, what jewelry ornaments and embroidery were specific to their regions, what kind of rituals were held during wedding ceremony, what types of techniques of traditional games were used, in a word, absolute attention to tradition and no detail overlooked.

The Ritual Day with games and dances took place in a private location at Ararat valley with typical Armenian design and furniture arrangements filled with ethnic spirit. The rituals of Alurmaghek (the sifting of the flour), Ginetapek, Bride’s hair washing with rose water and braiding, Tagvor’s (King’s) Tree Preparation, Harsnar were taking in “Bride’s and Groom’s
Houses”.

The Fiest took place at VanArdi winery, as a idyllic venue was exquisite with the aesthetic for an opulent Armenian traditional destination wedding. Situated between three significant mountains: Ararat, Aragats and Ara this venue was unique, romantic, unforgettable for the family and friends gathered to celebrate this special day filled with traditional food, music and dance.

We designed Melqon and Alin’s wedding ceremony in a traditional Armenian style.

The guest tables were
decorated with signature bouquets of natural flowers gthered from the fields and white candles on glass vases. The tower behind the dancing square and the fire bowels highlighted the traditional breath and spirit the effects of which will forever transform guest expectations of any wedding.

All the guests wore traditional armenian costumes, jewelry and accessories.

Alin shone in a pale pink
Chukha hand-decorated with Ourfa embroidery, and Melqon in a embroidered traditional costume designed by our talented fashion designers and embroidery masters reviving almost lost traditional wedding costumes of Sasun and Ourfa.

Alin also wore a one of a kind hand-made belt with the flower patterns of Ourfa created by our jeweler completing her traditional armenian wedding look with grace.

The Church Ceremony took place in a medieval Armenian Monastery Saghmosavank (1255), with a fabulous view of Mount Ara and Kasagh river canyon. The priest blessed the couple who then exchange rings as a symbol of unity.

Few had ever seen such a unique traditional Armenian wedding and Tonir Wedding team felt privileged to organize and to be part of Melqon and Alin’s Big day.
